Thinking About a Manzilian? Relax. I’ve Seen It All.
Let’s just get this out of the way…
Yes, I’m going to see you naked-ish.
No, I will not be judging you.
And yes, you are probably overthinking this entire thing.
If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been thinking about manscaping, male waxing, or finally booking that manzilian wax you’ve been curious about for months. Maybe years. Maybe your partner suggested it. Maybe summer is coming. Maybe shaving has betrayed you one too many times.
Whatever brought you here, welcome.
I’m Mekah, owner of Mekah’s Body Shop in Burbank, and I’ve been waxing bodies for 19 years. Trust me when I say this: there is absolutely nothing you could show me that would shock me at this point.
Seriously.
After nearly two decades of professional body waxing, I’ve worked with every body type, hair texture, nervous personality, athlete, actor, first-timer, seasoned wax veteran, and “I lost a bet” appointment imaginable.
And honestly? I love what I do.
That matters more than people realize.
Male Waxing Is Personal. Your Waxer Should Be Someone You Trust.
A manzilian is not like grabbing a quick haircut from a random shop.
You’re trusting someone in a very personal space. You want somebody professional, experienced, clean, calm, and confident. Someone who knows what they’re doing and knows how to make you feel comfortable while doing it.
That’s exactly the environment I’ve built at Mekah’s Body Shop.
Guests tell me all the time:
“That was way less awkward than I expected.”
Good. That’s the goal.
A lot of first-time male guests walk in nervous. Some are visibly sweating in the lobby. Some talk a mile a minute because they’re anxious. Some apologize for being nervous before we even start.
And honestly? I get it.
That’s why I’ve made it part of my job to put people at ease from the second they walk through the door.
You’re not just another appointment here.
Yes, There’s a Complimentary Shot.
For guests 21+, I offer a complimentary shot before your service.
Is it medically necessary?
Absolutely not.
Does it sometimes help nervous first-timers loosen up and stop clenching every muscle in their body like they’re preparing for battle?
You’d be surprised.
Some guests take me up on it. Some don’t. Some happily accept even when they aren’t nervous at all.
No judgment either way.
This is a safe space.
Why Men Keep Coming Back to Mekah’s Body Shop
A lot of men book their first wax because they’re curious.
They become regulars because of the experience.
I’ve built my spa around professionalism, cleanliness, consistency, and making people feel comfortable. Not rushed. Not embarrassed. Not judged.
That’s a huge reason why so many of my guests come back month after month.
I personally perform every service myself, which means you’re not rolling the dice with whoever happens to be available that day.
And after 19 years, speed and technique matter.
Especially with intimate waxing.
The faster and cleaner the technique, the more comfortable the experience usually is.
But beyond the technical side, I genuinely care about my guests having a good experience.
I want you leaving thinking:
“Okay… that honestly wasn’t bad at all.”
Let’s Talk About the Actual Manzilian
For anyone new here, a manzilian (also called a boyzilian) is essentially the male version of a Brazilian wax.
Depending on your preference, it can include:
- Front cleanup
- Full hair removal
- Butt strip
- Grooming and shaping
- Full intimate waxing
Every guest is different.
Some men want completely smooth skin.
Some prefer a cleaner, groomed manscaping look without removing everything.
Some are bodybuilders, swimmers, cyclists, actors, or fitness competitors.
Some just got tired of shaving and dealing with itchy regrowth that feels like sandpaper two days later.
No matter the reason, the goal is the same:
Cleaner. Smoother. Easier maintenance.
Before Your Appointment: Don’t Overcomplicate It
You do not need to prepare like you’re training for the Olympics.
Here’s all I really need from you:
Let The Hair Grow
Hair should be long enough for the wax to grip properly. Think grain-of-rice length.
Shower and Exfoliate Before Your Appointment
This helps remove dead skin, oil and sweat.
Avoid Heavy Lotions or Oils
Clean skin works best.
Wear Loose Clothing
Your freshly waxed skin will appreciate it later.
Relax
Honestly, your nerves are usually worse than the appointment itself.
After Your Wax: Keep It Simple
Once your service is done, your skin needs a little recovery time.
For the next 24 to 48 hours:
- Avoid intense sweating
- Skip hot tubs and saunas
- Avoid friction and tight clothing
- Don’t aggressively exfoliate immediately afterward
After a couple days, gentle exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hairs and keeps the skin smooth.
And yes — your second appointment is always easier than the first!
“But Does It Hurt?”
I mean…
I’m not going to lie to you and say it feels like a Swedish massage.
But it’s also nowhere near as dramatic as people imagine.
Most guests finish their first appointment saying:
“That was it?”
The anticipation is usually worse than the wax itself.
And having an experienced waxer makes a huge difference.
Technique matters.
Experience matters.
Comfort matters.
That’s why choosing the right esthetician matters.
Read The Reviews
One of the things I’m most proud of is the feedback I get from guests.
People constantly mention:
- How comfortable they felt
- How clean the spa is
- How professional the experience feels
- How much easier the appointment was than expected
- How funny and relaxed the environment is
- How fast the service goes
That combination of professionalism and personality is intentional.
You can be great at waxing technically, but if your guests feel awkward the entire time, they probably aren’t coming back.
I want people to feel comfortable enough to become regulars.
And many do.
This Isn’t Just Waxing. It’s Confidence.
There’s something about feeling clean, groomed, and maintained that changes your confidence.
You stand differently.
You feel fresher.
You stop worrying about razor bumps.
You stop dealing with itchy regrowth.
You stop spending time constantly shaving.
And honestly?
Once most men start waxing regularly, they rarely go back to razors.
